pilar’s gift: logo

my gift is the gift shop logo framed.

it’s been a bit of a journey since i scribbled down the first version:

the gift shop is my idea. so I thought the logo might be a good way to sum up the inspiration and frustration of this particular act of creation.

the gift shop is a place for sharing gifts. it’s my gift to others - the idea of it, the space, the encouragement… - and a gift to myself. and the ‘me’ piece of it has been quite challenging, on many many levels.

the logo’s quite a good encapsulation of the ups and downs of it all: it’s cute, handwritten and has sparkles. and then it’s cute, handwritten and has sparkles. i had NO IDEA how difficult a hand-written logo could be (and it has sparkles). and while i’ve become pretty good at scribbling it (and even photo-shopping it). even then, the ‘framed collector’s edition’ took many many tries.

but while it’s been very trying, it’s been very worth it.

loGO
the identity of the gift shop is sort of a blank page. intentionally. i’m really loving how it has already evolved and how it will continue to evolve with the input of all the shopkeepers, their gifts and the artists and their gifts. it’s made for sharing. and i’m hoping that once it leave the shop its new owners will also share their ideas with us.

as long as they have sparkles, of course!
