our city

katy binks in residence february 23rd to march 7th 2009.
viewing of the city, animated film, and photography march 5th, 6th and 7th.

an installation designed to explore our ideas of city built using materials found in and around the gift shop in collaboration with other artists, students and the general public. the architecture is not intended to be completely literal; it stems from the collisions of our different experiences, memories and perceptions of cities the artist and all of us have lived in, as we make sense of our place as citizens.
katy binks is an observant city inhabitant, fascinated by simple daily events, the rhythm of the city, the routines of our lives and their impact on the world we populate. katy began a degree in architecture, and despite a change to graphic arts, remained fascinated by urban environments, developing a body of work mapping the geographical landscape of cities, based on installation, print making and drawing.
