Hubert was our first shoot at the hospital and as we made our way to the porters mess on the ground floor, we really didn’t know what type of reception to expect.  In one corner of the mess was a small control room with two guys on radios dispatching jobs to porters all over the hospital. The mess was a mix of lockers and seats where those on their break could grab a bite to eat and chat.  Hubert Beale is a tall and unflappable Jamaican man. As we set up our equipment a steady stream of porters came and went with the obligatory jibes about modelling and breaking of cameras.  Hubert has worked at The Royal London for 7 years.  Every year he takes the bulk of his annual leave over a 5 week period between Christmas and January: during this time he flies back to Jamaica to a town called Manchester and works on his retirement cottage. “Each year we get a bit more done”.
